Architecture & facades

Ventilated facades, jali screens, ceiling systems and balustrade infill — specified by open area and daylight rather than by part number.

Architectural perforation is really a daylight calculation. Open area governs how much light passes, how far the facade can be seen through, and how much solar gain the building takes. Everything else — hole shape, pitch, finish — follows from that decision.

Mumbai adds two constraints that inland projects do not have. Salt air means exterior stainless should be specified as 316 rather than 304, and the monsoon means drainage behind a rainscreen matters as much as the panel itself. Aluminium dominates for weight: at roughly a third the density of steel it keeps the supporting structure light, and it anodises for a finish integral to the metal.

The practical risk on facade work is bow. Removing 40% of a sheet leaves far less metal to resist the stresses perforation introduces, and a panel that arrives curved cannot be installed. Levelling is in-house here, which is why high open-area panels are quotable at all.

What this sector typically orders

  • Rainscreen facade panels1.5–3 mm aluminium, 30–40% open, anodised or powder-coated
  • Car park screeningHigher open area for ventilation, often expanded metal
  • Expanded metal jaliDiamond or hexagonal, interior and exterior screens
  • Ceiling and soffit meshFine perforation over acoustic backing
  • Balustrade infillPerforated or expanded panels to balustrade frames
  • Solar shading louvresFormed perforated elements

Common questions

What open area gives good daylight without losing privacy?
Between 30% and 40% is the usual compromise. It reads as a solid surface from outside in daylight while passing enough light to work behind. Below 20% the panel reads as solid; above 50% it reads as a mesh and will need levelling.
Can you work from an architect's elevation drawing?
Yes, as DXF or PDF. If the pattern falls outside our tooling we will say so and propose the nearest pattern we can actually make — before quoting, not after you have detailed around it.
How are the panels fixed?
We supply the perforated panel, and we shear, bend and form it in-house to your detail — returns, flanges and stiffeners included. The fixing system itself is normally the facade contractor's package.
