Demister pads, screens & filtration media

Knitted wire mesh demister pads, filter and strainer screens, vibrating screen cloth. Separation duty in SS 316L, Monel and copper.

Filtration is where this unit started — the sister company at Masjid Bunder is still called Jai Shree Filtration. A demister pad is a deceptively simple product: knitted wire mesh, compressed to a density, in a thickness. Get the density and wire diameter wrong and it either floods or passes droplets.

Pad selection follows the Souders–Brown relation, which sets the maximum gas velocity for a given liquid and gas density. Run below that velocity and the pad separates; run above it and liquid re-entrains and carries over. Vessel diameter, operating pressure and service all feed into it.

Material matters more here than in most of our work. Chloride and amine streams need 316L, not 304. Seawater and acid service usually need Monel. We would rather ask about the stream than quote the cheapest alloy.

Common questions

How do I size a demister pad?
Start from the Souders–Brown equation: V_max = K × √((ρ_liquid − ρ_gas) / ρ_gas). For a standard horizontal pad with vertical flow, K is about 0.107 m/s. Operate below that velocity. Send us vessel diameter, gas and liquid densities and the service, and we will size it — or use the selector tool when it launches.
SS 304 or SS 316L for a demister pad?
316L wherever chlorides or amines are present, which covers most refinery and coastal service. The molybdenum in 316 resists pitting that would perforate 304. For clean hydrocarbon service at moderate temperature, 304 is usually sufficient and cheaper.
Can you supply pads in segments for a manhole?
Yes. Pads above roughly 1200 mm diameter will not pass through a standard manhole, so we supply them in segments with an overlap. Tell us the manhole diameter and we will work out the segment count.
What pressure drop should I expect?
A clean 150 mm pad at normal design velocity typically runs around 2 mbar. It rises as the pad fouls. If low pressure drop is critical, a thinner pad at lower density is the usual answer, at some cost in efficiency.
